Covering Instructions - The 'Bookshop' method.
Step 1
Remove the dust jacket from the book.
If it is in need of repairs or cleaning,
this is an excellent time to do it.
Step 2
Roll out some covering film and lay the
dust jacket on it, printed side down.
There should be at least 4 cm on the
top and bottom fo the cover to allow
for the fold.
Cut the film to length. You don't need
to leave any overhang on the sides.
Step 3
Fold the top and bottom overhang.
Crease the plastic firmly - you can use a
a smooth flat object like a ruler to get a
sharp crease.
You can fold the dust jacket along its
original fold lines to crease the plastic
and help it sit well on the book.
Step 4
Put the covered dust jacket back onto
the book. Congratulations, your book
is now protected!
We call this method the Bookshop Method because that's where it's most often found. It's a quick and easy method for
covering books with dust jackets. It doesn't require any tape or tools other than a pair of scissors. It can't be used on books
without dust jackets.
